CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT

Book Description

Colonialism is explained as the controlled pressure of a single power on a region or people. If we look at the practices in the world, colonialism is when one country invades another country and claims its resources and land as its own. It is the "settlers" of this region and its people - allowing them to live on this land. Although the terms colonialism and imperialism are used interchangeably, they do not mean the same thing. There have been two major waves of colonialism in world history. The first colonization was in the 15th century, during the European Age of Discovery. During this time, European countries such as England, Spain, France, and Portugal colonized lands in North and South America. European countries almost competed with each other for the glory of having a large number of colonies. The second wave of colonial expansion was the African continent in the 19th century. England, France, Portugal and Spain completely colonized Africa. They created country borders according to themselves. These borders divided cultural groups and led to quite negative results. Indigenous people are unable to do anything. Political, economic and social institutions were destroyed, as were traditional ways of life that were considered inferior. These issues are explained in detail in the book.
